Howard Egan with a fallow buck shot in New Zealand. Howard tells his story as follows:
"It was the 18th of April 2007 as I determinedly stalked fallow deer around the Wairarapa coastal hill country. I was carrying my new Weatherby Vanguard 300 Win Magnum fitted with a Leupold vari-power scope supplied by the team at Wairarapa Hunting and Fishing.
Whilst sidling the coastal hills, all hell broke loose from just inside the pines to the right of a rather large slip. The big buck hurtled out about 50 metres above me and rocketed across my front through the scattered pines. The 300 Win Mag went up and I clearly remembered saying to myself "Do Not Miss". I picked him up easily {a well set up scope} settled on his shoulder and squeezed the trigger. A noticeable stumble but he carried on into the pines. I knew though!
A wild deer totally shot in a fair chase.
A 23 pointer, length 31 inches, spread 28 & 1/2 inches, palm width 9 & 1/2 inches totalling 251 & 3/4 inches on the Douglas score which is the fifth biggest ever to be shot in NZ.
The support I got from the boys at Wairarapa Hunting and Fishing has been important to me. Customer service counts!"
